A bit about me and how Eleanor came about:
Eleanor was conceived after a period of personal photographic drought. After years of image making, I felt I had lost my direction, my passion, and my obsession with the photographic image. I needed inspiration.
I began to talk to my friends and colleagues about their personal works; the “non-cash” photographic works that have potential to mature into quintessential expressions of the craft. The type of work that reflects our curiosity and leads to maxed-out credit cards, abandoned relationships, and drastic directional shifts.
I created Eleanor.
What is Eleanor?
Eleanor is a bit of a odd outfit, online we showcase the editor’s selections based on submitted works. These works are then added to a collection of works that are annually curated by a guest curator. The curator is asked to bring the work down to a selection of 12. It is at this point that we produce an edition of 100.
Each edition of Eleanor is a handcrafted portfolio of single prints, combined with artist’s statements and biography. Selected photographers receive a personal copy and a gift copy.
I am very excited about the this model and hope that as Eleanor evolves it will become a valued voice and platform for personal photographic works.
In Kind,
Matt Wright-Steel
