The 1990's saw a massive move of Islamization in Egypt, one that did not seem to take the nation by surprise, as though it was the natural reaction to the country's declining economic, political and social status. The number of veiled women walking the streets of the capital, Cairo, has multiplied. A woman walking with her hair exposed is either a Christian or a liberal. This coincided with the Muslim Brotherhood, the country's most powerful opposition party, taking the largest number of seats in parliament in the history of the country, a development that could single towards the country's political future.
